Skiing and Snowboarding in Detail

The Arlberg`s lift served skiing in the St Anton area, with all its steep bowls, ridges, couloirs etc, is some of the most challenging in the world. A good number of the runs are Ski Routes and so should not be skied alone, but there is also a wealth of tricky patrolled reds and blacks to provide tremendous variety for really advanced skiers. For intermediates there are some good long reds and the really challenging red Ski Routes. The offpiste, with its extremely well snowfed slopes, is legendary and almost limitless.
For absolute beginners, apart from the fit and sporty,St Anton is not the ideal resort but of course there are short beginners slopes in the Nasserein areas from which to graduate.

A very good description of skiing in the whole Arlberg region can be found on www.ultimate-ski.com. Finally there is of course huge scope for the
Boarder throughout.

St Anton has grown vastly over the years but its character has by no means been spoilt. The modern buildings are very decorative and in keeping with the old.The former village of Nasserein, at its eastern end, is a brisk walk from the centre, St Jakob being a bit further.

Pettneu, 7 kms from St Anton`s centre, is a delightful old village, south facing and wonderfully situated directly opposite a very striking mountain and the highest in the Arlberg region, with its glacier clearly visible. The free skibus leaves every 15 minutes, taking about 12 minutes to the main lifts and 8 to Nasserein. The use of the excellent swimming pool is free for those using our accommodation.

Stuben, in the heart of the Arlberg, claims average snowfall totals of 12 metres per season and is a true Schneeloch ( snowhole ) ! It is a tiny village with just a cluster of attractive hotels, pensions, apartments and residents houses. The offpiste on the Albona is talked about as being some of the finest in the Alps and the village`s location is such that the Sonnenkopf, Zuers / Lech and St Anton areas are all quickly reached. This is a wonderful place for the dedicated skier / boarder and for families who are not looking for vibrant nightlife. Transfers from Zurich and Innsbruck, although sometimes involving more than two changes, run throughout the day direct to the village.

Our two 3 * hotels in Pettneu offer outstanding value, one providing a halfboard en suite package from 17 . 12 - 24 . 12 .11 with free beer, wine and soft drinks from 1800 - 2130 , for just Eur . 420 (approx £ 360 ) !

Half Board in a twin room from 14 . 1 . 12 - 21 . 1 . 12, Easyjet flight from Gatwick to Innsbruck ( at 15 . 12 . 11 prices ), train transfers from airport to St Anton and return, costs approx £ 480.

This beautifully decorated hotel has been an inn for over 400 years and is still in the same family ownership. The other hotel offers halfboard en suite from approx Eur .60 per person / night. Our two pensions also provide great value. one offers halfboard with, in our opinion, delicious food,at Eur . 56 per night
throughout the winter, again in a lovely old building. The other starts from Eur . 47 halfboard en suite and is owned by Werner, a hugely welcoming character and the pension`s cook .

Of our two 3 * hotels on the outer fringes of St Anton one offers amazing value in a twin bedroom with basin only and wc, bathroom etc on the landing, at Eur . 47 halfboard per night in low and mid season, Eur . 60 high. Their standard twin rooms cost from Eur 65 LS, 75 MS and 90 HS . The other hotel charges slightly more but sometimes offers excellent last minute bargains.

Stuben has a pension ( among others ) with its own restaurant enabling you to have a threee course a la carte meal and B & B accommodation starting from about Eur . 60 per night in a twin en suite room.
